Midnight Hare Bowl 3

A large, stoneware bowl, thrown on the wheel, ideal for serving anything. Beneath a starlit sky, hares run in an incessant dance around the sides of this bowl. The intricate decoration of the inside of these bowls takes hours and uses different techniques: sgraffito (applying a coloured slip and then scratching out the design - for example, the trees on this bowl), hand-made stencils and masks (the hares, the stars and part of the design on the interior base of the bowl) and hand-painting (elements of the hares and the foliage.) This bowl has a simple blue and white striped exterior. My fingers have left their maker’s mark on the exterior of this bowl from gripping it while glazing - further evidence of the handmade nature of this product. This enhances rather than detracts from its charm and in no way affects the function of the vessel.

This is a large, sturdy serving bowl and is ideal for an arrangement of fruit, or an inviting salad etc. When not in use, it will happily function as a decorative item - it would be a shame to hide it away in a cupboard!
